Have you found that your boiler is making strange sounds, or that its pressure gauge has slipped into the red? If so, you'll need to top up your boiler pressure. Read this blog post to learn all about how to top up your Worcester Bosch boiler.
Worcester Bosch boilers are highly popular in the UK, and they are one of the top brands of boilers that Elements Heating Installations offers. Worcester Bosch boilers, air conditioning units, and air source heat pumps are all installed, repaired, and serviced by us.
How can I tell if my boiler pressure is too low?
The first indicator of a low-pressure boiler is that your heating or hot water system is malfunctioning. Check the water pressure indicator on the front of your boiler to be sure. This might be a hydraulic dial or a digital readout.
The gauge should ideally read between 1 and 1.5, but if you discover that the pressure gauge or indication has slipped into the red zone, you must quickly repressurize it.
When you re-pressurise your boiler, you are allowing additional water into the system. Other combi boilers utilise a filling loop to do this, however certain Worcester Bosch boilers employ an internal filling key. The team at Elements Heating Installations recommend that you carefully read the manufacturer's manual and switch off the power to your boiler before commencing.
A step-by-step guide to repressurising your Worcester boiler
- Remove the hatch on the underside of your boiler to reveal the internal filling key, which is clipped within.
- Look inside the boiler for the filling connector. This is a little hole to the right of a white square, into which the key will fit.
- Firmly insert the key into the filling link until the arrow on the key's side almost touches the black plastic.
- Turn the key anticlockwise until the arrow points in your direction.
- Then, turning the white square clockwise, enable cold mains water to enter the system. It should be audible to you. Wait for the pressure gauge to read between 1 and 1.5 on the water pressure gauge.
- Turn the square back to its original position to turn off the water.
- Before turning the filling key over and removing it, place an old cloth below the boiler to collect any drips.
- Dry off the key and replace it in the tray before replacing the hatch.
- Restart the boiler and, if necessary, push the reset button.
